Drunk Driving

Do you think that drunk drivers should be put away for life or be allowed to redeem themselves?

Personally, I'm all for the death penalty if the drunk driver causes an accident which results in death. In fact, I think it should be mandatory. If you're caught driving drunk, you should have a minimum jailtime of 1 year, and if you cause a nonfatal accident, 5 years, mandatory. I had a good friend killed by a drunk driver a couple of years ago. The drunk driver was going so fast that when he hit the car my friend was in, she was decapitated by the windshield. The car then of course basically smashed my friend's car to pieces. She was so mutilated they couldn't identify which severed limb was her left arm and which was her right calf. She was essentially turned into jello, the bone was pulverized and the muscle was so mutilated that individual cells had burst. She was split into 4 pieces. The car was compacted to 1/3rd its original size.

I think if you're so goddamn stupid as to drive drunk and risk others' lives, you OUGHT to be put to death, because stupid people never change.

Oh, god. Don't get me started on them. I've had so many incidents with them it's just not funny. I had a sprained ankle in the beginning for trying to help a drunk driver out of his truck, after ramming it into our wall, leaving a 9 foot hole in the wall, then further broke it by working it too hard. I also lost a really good friend to a drunk driving accident and, back when I was... I think 8, I was in a car crash because of some drunk driver. It just so happened to be my friend's father. I couldn't look at her the same way again. : :

My best friend in college was killed by a drunk driver. She was engaged to be married to another close friend of mine in two years when they graduated. The really sad part was that her parents called the dorm before the college had a chance to contact them about the accident, and her roommate answered the phone and had absolutely no idea what to say. (another friend of mine.)

But this was what it took to get the drunk driver to admit that he had a drinking problem. He joined AA, cleaned up his life, joined the church that the dead girl's father was a preacher at, and after his required community service continued to tell his story at local high schools because he wanted to make sure that the kids didn't find out the hard way that drinking and driving really does kill. And it may not be you that it kills.

Sometimes stupid people do change.

See I would agree with you about this, except, What if it was my brother or sister that was the drunk driver? I know what they did was wrong, but I don't want them to die. The guilt of killing someone while drunk would destroy them anyways.

But I'm not saying they can't be punished/jailed or fined. They can do that. But I wouldn't want to lose my sister or brother just because of a stupid decision.

This is why it is very important to remember that advertising campaign that seems to have died out now.

You guys are getting to be the age where it matters the most. If there is a party where there is alcohol, there ALWAYS needs to be a designated driver who drinks soft drinks all night and makes sure everyone gets home safely. And if someone who has had any alcohol to drink wants to drive home, a friend will stop them before they end up in a situation where someone is in the hospital or dead.

And I'm sorry if I sound like I'm lecturing. You probably get enough of that from your parents. I'll shut up now.

I am the designated driver at every party, and even though I am tecnically not old enough to drink, I still take the responsibbility for me and my friends. They all know to call me no matter what time it is, if I am there or whatever. I WILL come and get you. So, I know that they are safe and that I am keeping others safe as well.

i agree and feel the same about people talking on cell phones. they should all be put to death regardless of killing someone else.

I am hopeing in PA they will pass the no cell phone law. I really hate it, I was T boned a year or so back by some girl on a phone, she just got her license and was going to pick up some friends. Totaledmy car and broke one of my hips and I had a piece of shrapnel puncture my lung. She walked away with out a scratch. I coud have killed her.

If I could have walked, I woudl have kicked her ass, that was a given. And it didnt help that she was one of those"like oh my gawd, like, what shoudl I do, like, huh?" girls I could have killed her just for that.

There needs to be a law that women can't drive, they are worse then drunk drivers.

If that law passes, then all ignorant men should be shot. I'm guessing you would be atop that list.

There was an accident at the intersection near my house today. One of the drivers was a woman, but I don't know who hit who. It was probably her fault, though. I'm just saying.

Just because some women drivers suck doesnt mean we all do. And just because some men are idoits doesnt mean they all are. See? It works both ways, so if you want to debate about women drivers, take to the Peaches Tea Room. This thread is about drunk driving. I will be happy to argue with you there.

Well, drunk women are probably TERRIBLE drivers, then.
