America, the Next Rome?
I'm sure all of you have heard America compared to Rome. And we all know how Rome ended: its Capital burned to the ground and the Empire fell apart. It is speculated that this happened due to rampant drug use, dissatisfaction with government, and rebellion.
My question is, do you think America will fall the same way? It has been said that all empires have about 500 years of borrowed time before they must fall, as did both England and Rome. Do you think the American people are smart/strong enough to preserve what is undoubtedly what is one of the most open and free nations on Earth? I certainly think we have the skills and abilities to remain on top, but do we have the devotion to one another to hold together? I hope and like to think so.

Re: America, the Next Rome?
lol vampy.. hmm, I dunno.. bit hard to compare rome to america.. (no offence) but uhh.. it won't reall fall like back in the roman times because of how we are today, however there might be a rebellion but it won't be enough to make is a civil war because... well, i dunno I can't see it happening.. it could happen though. Let's just say america has fallen and there are too many government issues to bring america back to normalness.. lol.. there's a difference between how theroman empire ended, yes they were civilised for their time but all over the world the government is much better and the won't let a war happen.. excluding perhaps some parts of the middle east. Anyway if war did happen to break out in america, too many countries will be involved and that'll start world war 3. I mean, I'm just assuming that's what would happen, and not saying that there actally will be a war or anything but.. yeah lol.. hmm, I've seemed to sort of change what's happening.. umm, so yeah..
Oh and to answer your question, if america does fall I highly doubt it'll be the same way. There may be some parts that'll be similar but if it does fall it may result in another world war..

You didn't have my 7th grade world history teacher... I can hear him now with his "Bread and Circuses" talk that we got every three days or so when somebody suggested that the government should pay for some pork-barrel project. (Keeping our mouths shut didn't help; we would get lectures if he heard it on the news, too.)

Re: America, the Next Rome?
I've heard America compared to Rome like a gazillion times. Usually the fall of Rome.
America: We are full of optimists.
There are so many possible factors in America that it's hard to figure out what will happen. Even making a guess seems kinda silly. I don't think it will be falling in the next 300 years or so unless something really strange happens.

In 300 years, I think that America will have merged with another country, or another country will have merged with us. America may or may not be called america anymore.

I would hope that in 300 years countries would be little more than a formality.

Re: America, the Next Rome?
Honestly, I don't think you can really predict what will happen. Like WWW said, there are a lot of different factors that play into it. One little thing affects everything. It might fall, or it might not. We can't know until it happens.
