I come from the south and I have set views about sex and age. This makes me so mad.

Here, there was three (That I know of. I got it from my friend.) pregnancies in -6th grade- alone at her school. There was also a pregnancy at my school at the beginning of the year, and we only knew about it because she was kicked in the stomach and they had to bring an ambulance. Nooo idea what grade she was in.
One of them was a sort of enemy of mine. B*tch got pregnant by a 14 year old black guy. Dude. Ummm...

But, a lot of middle schoolers around here are sexually active. *Twitch*

Oh, and, this girl in my classes, Illiana, is 14, and she's dating an 18 year old. Shocked

Or 19 maybe by now..Mr Decker was "O_O What the f-ck?!" And he almost literally said that.

Each year kids are less kids.. new generations are losing their childhood too soon.. I was talking about it the other day with a friend, they don't even see cartoons anymore..

I remember hearing the same complaints from adults when I was a kid. This isn't a new problem; it's just been growing more obvious.

Part of it is that they are not learning strong moral values from their families and their society. American society has a policy of "Tolerate everything", which is fine when it means people, but not when it means behavior. I'm sorry, but I don't think I want to tolerate things like shooting cars with pellet guns from an overpass, or painting a swastika on a house because you don't like the family that moved into it. True, there are laws against that sort of thing, but the people who get caught always seem to be surprised that it was really considered a crime!

You know, you look at Holland, and people complain about how liberal it is. Holland A) has a significantly lower rate of childhood pregnancies, B) has a MUCH lower rate of citizen drug use, and C) manages to do all of this and still allow people some freedoms. I'm not saying they're perfect, but they seem to be managing their liberties much better than we are.

It makes me sad, last weekend I actually woke up at about 7am one morning, and decided that I'd go watch some of those old 1950's cartoons (oh, the imitable violence. xD). they used to show on CN, so I thought that was the best bet. I used to watch these things all the time as a kid, and so I was really disappointed when, at their usual show time, they weren't on ANY channel. You want to know what was on? Nick: Some live-action show I don't recognize, CN: camp Lazlo, whatever the hell that is, Dis: Hannah Montana. One out of those was really vulgar bodily humor, and the other two were teen soap-operas. You want to know why we have kids acting like teens? Those shows.

Some of the 'kids' programming these days is just... outright disturbing.
I mean, has anyone actually sat down and watched an episode of Spongebob Squarepants?
I don't mean watch it like anyone would.
I mean actually listening to what the characters say, and seeing what they do?
It can be downright disturbing at times.
(Also, from what I heard, the character of spongebob is supposed to be an adult or something. That makes it worse)
Definetly some of TV is to blame, but you know what?
So are social-networking sites like MySpace.

There's also this HUGE trend for kids (at least kids of my generation, who are at the end of their teen years) to not be raised properly. You would think the parents would teach them ABC and 123 and "Please" and "Thank You", yeah?
Not anymore.
They plop the tykes down in front of Sesame Street and Barney when they are little. TV's don't project still images, y'know. It's a rapid flicker so fast we perceive a solid image. That really screws with little kid's heads, and sometimes can bring out negative instincts within the mind.
Then they send the kids to school. Where they interact with other kids.
It just gets worse...

Just because Spongebob Squarepants is a cartoon doesn't mean it was intended as a kids show. People forget that. There are a lot of cartoons that are intended for more mature audiences.

But... Spongebob Squarepants is a childrens show. And yeah; alot of the stuff is disturbing. Spongebob is 22, he is a guy who just never grew up.

Its just a cartoon; relax.

It's not a -little- kids show. The target audience is teens and older. And I'm another parent who's guilty of letting my kid watch it when I really shouldn't have, although my husband or I did watch it with him. And we did have discussions about a few things that were inappropriate.

(And from the number of times he's won Employee of the Month, he's got to be at least 30.)

Guys, come on. Liros had an opinion, and she is being chewed out for it. This thread was intended to be about "sluts", not about cartoons. That being said, I have decided that I want to get involved now. Thanks.

I personally agree with Liros on the point that:

Please note that I bolded the word "think", because this part is very true. People see cartoons like Spongebob to be intended for smaller kids. Is this always the case? No. It is a common misunderstanding, though. Look back at Tom and Jerry, which was considered okay to watch by younger children, even with all the violence. That is also a common misunderstanding.

And still, as Liros said, this is how many children are raised nowadays, in front of the TV with cartoons not exactly intended for their age. And don't say I'm hating on anybody's parenting skills -- because I'm not. I have taken on a single mother role for children too, y'know.

I know I'm going to be shot dead for this, but seriously. Can we please stop all this nonsense about people attacking TV shows? Notice how Liros never said that it WAS a childrens show, but wrote it like this:

Note the apostrophes in the bold there. I could be incorrect, but generally, this means that she does not believe that it is meant to be aimed at children. However, if the word "kids" was not within apostrophes, this would mean that she DID believe that it was a childrens show, and she did believe that it was specific for this age group.

Shoot me if you must, and I am sorry to have wasted your time.

I know 10-and-younger-year-olds who are allowed to watch South Park. Need I really say any more? Liros really has a valid point about parents not monitoring/parenting their kids well.

Actually, I can understand the decision. Ash is really too young to be out on his own like that, (What happened to school?) and Team Rocket is.... Let's just say there are some kids who should not be exposed to that until they are a bit older.

It's not a decision I would have made, but I understand where it came from.

I didn't understand pokemon but I was obsessed with it.. I hated team rocket lol.. Im a strange person hahaha
